It’s a new year so why not get it started right? Join us on Thursday, January 17 at 6:30 PM for more fascinating technical presentations and great conversations. Alberto Santaballa will start the year off by showing us how to use SMS programmatically via Twillo. If you’ve ever wanted to know how to send and receive text messages from your application you can’t miss this session. Then Janier Davila will give us an introduction to Git and GitHub and show us why you should be using it. This promises to be another great night!

We will also be giving away more books, swag, and more one-month subscriptions to PluralSight.

Because we don’t want the fun to stop when the meeting is over we’ll be at Miller’s Ale House on Miracle Mile (101 Miracle Mile, Coral Gables) for food and networking. All are welcome.

Session and Speaker Details:

Using Twilio for SMS Integration

Ever have trouble figuring out how to approach an application that needs very custom SMS? See how to use Twilio to implement an SMS voting application with ease, low cost, and almost not setup. Twilio is completely cloud based and uses web and REST interfaces to support programmatic access to SMS and telephony. The front end administration is easy to set up and use, but allows growth to large scale applications. Drop by and see how to set up your first app.

Introduction to Git and GitHub for .Net Developers

Unless you have been living under a rock you’ve probably have heard about Git and GitHub. Maybe you’ve wondered why you should care about Git. What you may not have noticed is that Microsoft has started to add Git support into its Azure offering. CodePlex, Microsoft’s code hosting site, has made Git as a first-class source control system and many Microsoft open source software like ASP.NET MVC are hosted on Git. This session will introduce you to Git and GitHub are and why you as a .NET developer need to care. You’ll learn how to install Git, what the most used commands and tools are, and a basic workflow to make you productive in no time. You’ll also learn how to put your code into GitHub and how easy it is to contribute to other OSS projects.
