This is an exciting time for professionals in the “project management” field. One of the major expanding areas of interest lately is Project Portfolio Management or PPM. But there’s also a lot of confusion about what PPM really means to an organization. It’s not just creating some fancy “dashboard”. A successful PPM implementation requires a solid understanding of your business processes and organizational objectives, a willingness to adopt revised techniques, and a comprehensive project plan for implementation; simply installing some new PPM software won’t result in success. This presentation will explain the basics of what’s required and also review the basic categories of PPM software available; surprisingly, many organizations require more than a single tool to meet their requirements. The presentation will also show how “project management” techniques and systems relate to PPM and suggest some simple “tips and tricks” for a successful PPM implementation based on the experiences of many firms who have been there.
